For architecture, shopping and museums, drive to energetic Toulouse - known as the 'Pink City' for its beautiful red-brick buildings. It's many elegant squares, bordered with cafes, are perfect for sitting back and watching the world go by.

This is also Cathar country – with numerous castles and abbeys to visit. On the trail of the Da Vinci Code take in the mysterious church of Rennes-le Chateau.

The property is surrounded on three sides by fields of sunflowers, wheat and corn with views to the north over vineyards to La Montagne Noire. The extensive garden leads down to the banks of the Canal Du Midi and the nearby Port du Bram (5 minutes away.
